Title: Quirky, light hearted gothic!
Review: I love the quirky, rather gothic ambience that Karen Gordon creates in her books. She can even make grammar interesting. I have her grammar book, The Transitive Vampire, on my bedside table solely because I love the playful, gothic world she summons up from her fevered brain. Just imagine what she can do with Paris! If you loved the alternate reality created by Lemony Snicket in his Series of Unfortunate Events books you will love Paris Out of Hand.

Title: For anyone who travels
Review: Or for anyone going to Paris! I have purchased this book at least 6 times. If I know anyone traveling to Paris this is my travel gift. Charming, imaginative and totally plugged into the Surrealists.it wouldn’t hurt to accompany it with the Idiots guide to Dada and Surrealism but you can enjoy the book on many levels. The wonderful illustrations, the goofy language translations, the pretend places, the letters..!

Title: Disappointing
Review: This book did not come close to the Griffin and Sabine series despite its recommendation for people who like Bantok’s work. While parts are funny, other parts are too hard to follow or just too outrageous to get what the author is trying to convey.

Review: This turned out to be a totally different book from what I thought it would be. I had read ITALY OUT OF HAND and enjoyed it very much. Italy book is historical and relates interesting stories , legends, anecdotes about places and people in various Italian cities and town. It is an interesting special type of “guide book”. Paris out of hand is a fictional account of Paris , figment of author’s imagination which is not very interesting or witty or clever. It was very disappointing. You neither learn anything interesting from it, nor it offers any enjoyment. I do not recommend this, particularly to people going to Paris for the first time or those looking for something different from the traditional guidebooks. At least I did not spend a lot of money on it, just a wasteful expenditure of $ 6.40. However, in terms of my expectations to read something similar to the Italy book, it was such a disappointment .
