Microsoft Surface Watch with LTE and Windows 8

According to The Verge Microsoft’s Surface team has now taken over the management of the project and is continuing to develop the Smartwaves, which have been in the Review phase for some time. According to information from the tech blog, several prototypes have already been tested by the Xbox accessories team. Initially thought of as a heart rate monitoring and as a fitness accessory for the Microsoft game console, a smartwatch has since emerged from the project. According to the article, Microsoft is now focusing primarily on compatibility and integration with other Microsoft devices and no longer exclusively on the Xbox.

For example, a modified version of Windows 8 is to run on the current prototype, which would accordingly simplify networking with other Windows tablets, laptops and smartphones. There is also talk of 6 GB of internal memory and an LTE modem. According to current rumors, the case of the smartwatch, which is said to have a 1.5-inch display, is out transparent aluminum. Interchangeable bracelets are said to be available in various colors, including red, black, white and various shades of gray.

So far, nothing is known about how the Microsoft smartwatch works and what it will have to offer in conjunction with other Windows devices. The fact that the current prototype has its own operating system and a cellular modem gives hope, at least, for a self-sufficient intelligent watch. It could therefore function completely independently and would not necessarily be dependent on another device to offer what you would expect from a “smart health watch”.
