Anita Hughes’s Christmas in Paris is a moving and heartwarming story about love, trust, and self-discovery. Set during the most magical week of the year and with details of the glorious foods and fashions in the most romantic city in the world, it’s sure to take your breath away.
Isabel Lawson is standing on the balcony of her suite at the Hôtel de Crillon as she gazes at the twinkling lights of the Champs-Élysées and wonders if she’s made a terrible mistake. She was supposed to be visiting the Christmas tree in the Place de la Concorde, and eating escargots and macarons with her new husband on their honeymoon. But a week before the wedding, she called it off. Isabel is an ambitious financial analyst, and Neil suddenly decided to take over his grandparents’ farm. Isabel wasn’t ready to trade her briefcase for a pair of rubber boots and a saddle.
When Neil suggested she use their honeymoon tickets, she thought it would give her a chance to clear her head. That is, until she locks herself out on the balcony in the middle of winter. Thankfully, her neighbor, Alec, a French children’s book illustrator, comes to her rescue. He, too, is nursing a broken heart at the Crillon over the holidays. With Alec by her side, she begins to enjoy Paris at Christmas. But after a chance encounter with a fortune-teller and a close call with a taxi, she starts to question everything she thought was important.

Title: A heartwarming and fun Christmas novel.
Review: Christmas in Paris is a delightful and jolly Christmas theme novel! What do you do when you break your engagement days before Christmas? An ambitious Philadelphia finance woman, Isabel Lawson decides to come to the city of light and love. And during her first night at the hotel, she meets her suite neighbor Alec, childrenâs illustrator, whose gorgeous fiance left him a week before their wedding.Days go by and hopeless romantic Isabel and heartbroken Alec build a friendship. They explore Paris, attend museums, eat delicious French delicacies and during one of their walks Isabel meets a fortune teller. And funny enough, psychic’s predictions are starting to come true. Isabel escapes death, receives a charming present, and meets a French count. While Isabel is being swept off her feet by handsome count, Alec is struggling to meet his work deadline and stop his evil half-sister from evicting his mother from her late husband’s townhouse. It’s Christmas time in Paris. And it’s a perfect time to fall in love… Despite all the differences Alec and Isabel find their way to their very own unexpected happy ending.A heartwarming and fun Christmas novel. A perfect book to cuddle up with during cold winter evenings.

Title: Oh what fun…
Review: The story was simple and predictable, it was like mental sorbet, not a bad thing. The descriptions were so lovely and vivid that it made me feel Paris at Christmastime, more than making up for anything that may or may not be lacking in story. (Yes, I bought Anita Hughes’ other Christmas books after reading this one. It was a fun read.)

Title: The only good thing I can say about this novel is that …
Review: The only good thing I can say about this novel is that it provided distraction when I need to keep my mind off the news. In the first few pages of this novel, you get the impression that the author is being paid a royalty for product name dropping. By the end of the book, the product placements become nauseating. The main character thinks nothing of dropping more money on her wardrobe than the GDP of some small Pacific Island nations. While it is nice to read about the famous Parisian tourist spots, the plot of this novel is completely implausible. The story is so implausible that it becomes a farce–like some story from a telenovela. So in summary, if you love reading ridiculous descriptions of French food and people who have way too much money to spend on items that cost way too much money, then read this book. If you are nauseated by the 1% and their useless lives, then this is a book to avoid.

Title: Great book
Review: Anita always writes such descriptive books that you feel you are taken on a journey. I love how she details the places, the food and the outfits for each occasion. This story is sweet and full of hopeful surprises. If I go to Paris I wouldn’t be able to afford the luxuries that Isabel has so what at treat to share in her journey. I loved this book and the magic of love and of Paris.

Title: Boring, predictable, pretentious prose
Review: This book reads more like an ad for products than a story. Too many descriptions of clothing and food or decor. Lacks character development and authentic dialogue. The plot is slow and predictable. It has no discernible narrative voice and the themes (if you can call them that!) are hackneyed and dull. Watch a YouTube video of Paris at Christmas for better fulfillment.

Title: Delightful….
Review: Sure the book is at times silly and beyond even Christmas Hallmark movies… But that is exactly what it is intended to be. How can you criticize a book for being exactly what it was written to be? I found it to be a delightful book. Perfect to lift one from the After Christmas Blues. Maybe it helps that I have visited Paris (name drop) and make fun of my fellow wealthy aristocrats all the time. LOL.

Review: I purchased this book hopping to distract myself during the Christmas holidays. This book is so poorly written I couldn’t insult my brain by continuing to read past the first few chapters. This book should be classified under science-fiction. It truly asks the reader to expand it’s imagination and credibility beyond anything possible.

Review: Not what I expected. It was a fluffy superficial story that was not that well written and relied too heavily on dropping place names, brands, and high end attractions in Paris. Disappointed would be my review.
