Title: Interesting history !
Review: Well written. The story of Notre Dame from its beginning to the recent fire is a history of France’s politics, religion, wars, and the people of France. I had the honor to visit in 2000 and was in awe of it’s splendor. I do hope it can be restore once again to it’s great magnificent beauty.

Title: A Grand Dame
Review: The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France sits on a site that has had religious connections since the beginning of the Common Era (CE). A previous 600-year-old church was leveled to provide the space for the current building which took 200 years to build and has stood for over 900 years. The cost to raise the structure is estimated to be around 1 Billion dollars in today’s value. No wonder it has become a national icon and a defining symbol of Paris and France. During its existence, it has been renovated and updated several times for various reasons. There have also been times when it did not serve as a church. It has been the site of many important secular events, such as the crowning of Napoleon as emperor. It was fortunate in not being in any major battle zones during WWII, but in recent times has been attacked by pollution. Alas, in 2019 an accidental fire caused major destruction, but many of the relics were saved. Again, 1 Billion dollars has been pledged to restore Notre Dame to its former glory. This book chronicles it’s entire history, and it’s importance as a symbol for many causes.

Title: So interesting!
Review: I was so sad when I heard that Notre Dame had been damaged by fire. It is such an important part of Christian, French and European history. This book made an interesting attempt to retell its story, including in it are the narratives of the people and events that contributed to that history. My husband and I visited Notre Dame on our honeymoon back in 1984 and we have such wonderful memories of the structure and its grandeur. I’m glad this book is around to help folks like me who are fascinated by history to get a glimpse of important moments, people, and places.

Review: I learned a lot from the book that is addition to other facts that I have read before. I didn’t expect that the book is so thin that and the price is too high. I also thought that there are some pictures (in color) included. The pictures in the book is not even clear. I am kinda disappointed. What is your basis for the price may I ask?

Review: I appreciate that the introduction of the book gives an explanation that follows current events without trying to pick a political side. The history of Notre -Dame was very well done and it is nice how the book also touches on what happened in more modern time with result of this famous building. Another triumph that has come out from Captivating History.

Title: Fascinating history of a very significant place.
Review: Great read, the story of one of the most significant pieces of architecture in the world. This book relates the history from its beginning until the recent fire that almost destroyed it. Apart from recognizing the contribution to architecture, the book also relates its historic and psychological meaning not just to France but also the world. Easy to read, fun and well researched with lots of fascinating facts in such a small space. If you just want to know about it but don’t have the time to read, or just want an introduction to a fascinating topic, look no further, you’ve found it. I enjoyed looking at the pictures enclosed.
